Measure the upgrade against the whole inventory
A knife or glove pair can consume more budget than every weapon skin combined. Compare two complete loadouts: one with the premium item and inexpensive rifles, and one with stronger everyday weapons but no premium slot. The better option is the version you prefer as a whole.
Do not treat the current total as a checkout guarantee. The comparison shows opportunity cost; exact listings and fees still need a final marketplace review.
Knife-first works when silhouette leads
Choose the knife first when animation, blade shape, and the repeated first-person presence are the main reasons for the upgrade. A neutral or versatile finish gives future gloves more room, while a highly specific colour can make the next stage narrower and more expensive.
Compare vanilla and finished versions as separate plans. A strong knife model with a restrained finish may create more lasting value for your design than a premium finish on a silhouette you like less.

Choose gloves first when they need to connect both team inventories or establish a colour that appears beside every weapon. Test them conceptually against your T rifle, CT rifle, and both starting pistols—not only the eventual knife.
Glove wear can materially change the visible result. Compare exact examples in adjacent wear tiers and reserve budget for the condition you would accept instead of budgeting from the cheapest headline listing.
