Everything we know about the new CS2 chickens and pets
Chicken Eggs are appearing after Rush Hour. Here is what players have found, what Valve’s game files describe, and what we still cannot confirm.

A surprise alongside Rush Hour
CS2’s September 22, 2026 update brought Rush, a new 3v3 mode, alongside changes to Premier map selection and a new music kit. Players then started finding something rather different in their weekly rewards: a Chicken Egg. First-day reporting shows an egg beside the agent in the main menu, with inspection and pet-book controls.
The published patch notes do not explain how to raise a pet. They do mention that chickens can now take Zeus x27 damage, but that line alone is not a pet manual. For this launch-day guide, we checked the shipped English text, pet definitions and interface scripts preserved by SteamDB. Features described in those files are labelled separately from things players have already observed.
What you can expect from an egg
Players report receiving eggs through the Weekly Care Package, with the egg taking both reward selections. Think of that as a choice about this week’s rewards: you are choosing a pet rather than adding a bonus item to the usual pair. Check the selection screen before confirming; the evidence does not establish that everyone will be offered an egg every week.
The game text also includes a rejection message for an egg offer when you already own a pet. This points to one active pet at a time. It is not evidence of a multi-pet inventory or a way to collect every breed simultaneously.

The four stages described by the game
The growth sequence is Egg, Chick, Pullet and Hen. A pullet is the adolescent stage; the milestone text connects it with developing colours and accompanying the player onto maps. The egg tooltip estimates hatching roughly a week after collection. We would not turn that estimate into an exact countdown for every account.
The client includes low-food warnings and directs players to Weekly Care Packages for feed. It also contains departure messages for pets without food and a separate ending for eggs that never hatch. A hen has an eventual end-of-life state too. The files describe a pet with a lifecycle, rather than a permanent weapon finish.
Names, breeds and memories
Three adult chicken definitions appear in the current schema: Catalana, Silkie and Polish. The interface supports naming from the chick stage, with later stages getting their own naming opportunity. Photo booth controls and a HatchBook give the system a place to record those changes.
These are useful clues to the intended experience, but a model name does not establish its drop rate. We are not assigning skin-style rarity tiers or prices to chickens. Nor have we verified a supported marketplace purchase route. If your interest is collecting, start with the lifecycle and weekly reward choice before treating this as another tradable cosmetic category.
What remains open
We still need reliable live evidence for egg availability, breed and colour probabilities, precise feed consumption, later growth timings and the behaviour of pets across game modes. The current files are not a promise of future animal species or a paid pet economy.
The practical first step is simple: inspect your own weekly reward offer, read the cost in selections, and use the pet’s displayed status after claiming. Our Chickens & Eggs hub keeps the confirmed definitions, file-backed features and outstanding questions together. This article was reviewed on September 23, 2026; later updates may change the details.
